Student FAQ’s

About Registration

Will I receive a registration confirmation?
You will receive an email confirmation of your registration which will include instructions for payment either by credit card or check. Please note that payment must be received in order to complete the registration process.

How can I register?
Click on the registration button for students and follow the instructions.

Can I pay by credit card?
Yes, just follow the directions on this secured site, and once you have completed the payment process, you will be fully registered for the job fair.

If paying by check, where do I send it?
Bring or mail the check for ten dollars to YOUR career center. The check should be made out to: Rhode Island College Agency Fund.

How to Prepare

How important are the orientation sessions?
You definitely should attend an orientation session either at your own college or at one of the consortium colleges. Orientation Session dates and times are listed on the website.

What happens at the job fair?
Read over the essential preparation information on this site and the Power Point Presentation. Also, each college’s career center will have a supply of the AAEE 2008 Job Search Handbook for Educators. Pick one up as soon as you have registered and go through it thoroughly. There are a lot of tips to help you as you begin your professional job search.

How will I know which schools are attending & what vacancies are available?
Search the district/school anticipated vacancies list.

About the Fair

How many resumes should I bring?
As many as the number of employers to whom you are hoping to give them.

Should I bring a portfolio?
You may if you choose, but only an abbreviated form is recommended.

How long does the fair last? Do I have to stay all day?
You may stay for as long as you have interviews scheduled. Your interview schedule is determined by the interviews you sign-up for during the 8 – 9:30 Interview Sign-up and Networking segment. You may leave and come back if they are all scheduled for the afternoon. You must attend all scheduled interviews, but if all your interviews are in the morning, you certainly may leave when you are through with your commitments.

What if I registered for the fair but decide to come later in the day?
You will be admitted to the fair, but most of the interview slots will have already been filled. You may be able schedule interviews at the add/drop table (located in the Rotunda, the Check-in Area) with schools whose schedules are not full.

What time should I get there?
Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. sharp. People will be checked in as efficiently as possible; we try to maintain a first-come, first-serve process.  Most students arrive earlier than 8:00 in order to have a competitive advantage for signing up for an interview.  Schedules fill up fast for RI schools.

How should I dress?
Professional dress is strongly recommended.

About Interviews

How do I schedule interviews?
Interviews are scheduled the day of the fair at the site. Once you have completed the check-in process, you will be allowed to sign up for interviews at employer booths. Do be prepared with a list of your priority schools before you get to the fair. Do not schedule interviews back to back, as you may have interviews at opposite ends of the ballroom and you don’t want to be late for the next interview. Make sure you check your map, so you know the location of the schools of your choice. Try to get an interview with those schools, but do not give up the opportunity to interview with some of the other schools that do not have such long lines. You never know what they may be offering until you hear it.

What if I don’t get interviews with the schools I want?
You can leave your resume with the interviewer during the morning networking segment. You may want to consider scheduling interviews with schools that were not on your priority list.

What if a school does not conduct an interview, but rather just gives out information?
We encourage all employers to conduct interviews, but have no control over what they do once they are set up at their booths.

About Offers
What if I am made an offer?
Do not accept on the spot, but ask for time to think about the offer and discuss it with significant others.

Follow-up
Do I send thank-you letters?
Yes. Send a letter of thanks, and reiterate your interest in the job. These letters should go out within a day or two of the fair. Click here to view a sample thank you letter.
