  2. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH: Visit this website regularly to determine what schools/school systems will be on-site. Visit the website of school systems that interest you to acquaint yourself with the district, certification/license requirements, salary schedules, anticipated vacancies, etc. Please note that registration website is as up-to-date as possible. Anticipated vacancies change regularly. Also, school systems may cancel at the last moment, and without notice.
  3. DRESS PROFESSIONALLY: First impressions are important. Hiring officials will expect professional dress - so plan ahead and dress appropriately. Consult your Career Advisor if you have questions with regard to appropriate attire.
  4. WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU: Come prepared with multiple (20-25) copies of your professional resume. Copy services may not  available on-site. Generally, transcripts and references can be forwarded at a later date. Large portfolios are not advisable; a sample might be more useful.
  5. REVIEW CONFERENCE PROCEDURES AND SCHEDULE: The conference hours are 9:30 am - 3:30 pm. While candidates may register throughout the day, early arrival is advisable. After a brief registration process, candidates are welcome to visit with the school systems in attendance. Some systems will offer literature and collect resumes, others may schedule brief screening interviews. NOTE: Many employers may break for lunch between 12:30 and 1:30 pm so plan accordingly. All recruiters are asked to remain until closing at 3:30 pm, however, experience has taught us that some will leave early to beat traffic or catch flights.

  8. PREPARE FOR THE INTERVIEW: Prior to the conference, prepare yourself for a 15 minute screening interview. Impress the recruiters with your succinct presentation, your knowledge of the school system and its unique qualities, and how your professional goals would fit with the system goals and objectives. Research the state testing and licensure requirements. Make note of recruiter names and title for follow-up letters and thank you notes.

HOW CAN I MAKE THE MOST OF THE DAY?
Candidates are encouraged to keep an open mind and consider all options available to them. The fair offers a great opportunity to consider opportunities beyond your local community, beyond Massachusetts, and beyond New England. While visiting a broad range of schools and communities is cost-prohibitive for most, the fair offers a relaxed format for exploration and research.

IF I AM OFFERED A CONTACT ON-SITE, SHOULD I ACCEPT?
Most schools/school systems do not offer contracts but utilize this great opportunity to interact with candidates and conduct screening interviews. Candidates will want to research and reflect prior to making a commitment.

WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ON PARTICPATING SCHOOL SYSTEMS AND STATE LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS?
Visit the MERC website and links to participating school systems. Most will have a wealth of information on all aspects of the system, from student demographics and curriculum highlights to salary schedules and online applications. Your Career Center can also assist with web links and other resources.

WHAT ABOUT MORE SPECIALIZED FIELDS, LIKE ATHLETIC TRAINING, PHYSICAL THERAPY, OCCUPATION THERAPY, SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY?
